On this hike we will walk parts of "Flyktningeruta"; a path through Østmarka used by refugees in the second world war. We'll see both beautiful nature and historical sights, and enjoy a day out in the fresh air! We'll meet up at Jernbanetorget in the morning (or by any of the other main Metro stations depending on where you stay) and take the Metro line 3 to Skullerud. This takes about half an hour, and takes us to the edge of the woods. From here we walk down to Skullerudstua where our path begins. On our way, we'll stop to see some sights (including a small cave used to hide and store weapons during the second world war). About halfway through the day, we'll stop and have a lunch break in beautiful surroundings, before we make our way back on a different track. We'll end the day by taking the Metro back to the city centre. The hike is approximately 10km long and takes about four-five hours to complete (including a lunch break, and stops along the way). Good hiking boots are required! Parts of the path is very wet at the moment, and if you wear trainers your feet will get soaked.
While you'll have to bring your own lunch and water for the hike, I'll bring some typical Norwegian hiking snacks and a hot…
I'll bring sitting pads for the lunch break and head torches to explore the Milorg-cave, as well as a map over the area.
I'm a student based in Oslo, with a passion for hiking and the outdoors which I love sharing with others! I've grown up with the local woods, Østmarka, as my backyard - and I've been hiking, canoeing, skiing and camping there throughout my whole life. In my opinion, hiking is best done with great company, and I'm excited to share the beautiful paths and facinating stories of Østmarka with anyone up for an adventure.
