Handmade bookbinding using traditional silk kimono fabric is a coveted craft that results in a beautiful original functional work of art. Most book binding shops have turned into automated factories. Tsutomu, a master bookbinder, has run his authentic hand-made bookbinding studio for over 55 years ago. Every step of the process has meaning, making it an artistic and meditational experience. I'm Yoko assistant of my father's studio. He is a great craftsman. I support him and act as an interpreter to visitors in this one of a kind experience for anyone who wants to feel real local culture !

Our bookmaking experience was a highlight of our trip! They welcomed us into their home studio with kindness and warmth! My daughters and I really enjoyed the stories of their training, the materials we were able to use and stories about each Kimono that we selected for our book cover! I highly recommend this experience! We were even served tea and cookies that were served in the cutest little dishes showing great attention to all details to make our evening a perfect place to learn and enjoy!!! Thank you!!!

We really enjoyed our experience hand binding our own books. I am really glad we took the opportunity to do it. Any art or literature fans would be interested in this class I think.

Very friendly and accommodating. Extremely knowledgeable about their craft, and able to break down the process so I could easily follow along. Had a great time and left with a great personalized souvenir! Highly recommend!!!

Great experience. It was lots of fun to learn the book making process and you get such a good take home to remember it by (the book!).

My partner and I had an amazing experience that will be the highlight of our trip. Both have travelled 37 counties and been on many experiences but this was by far the most interactive, insightful and personable experience. We learnt about the history and years behind the art of hand-made books to the single thread that binds them.. amazing! Highly recommend for any traveller that wants to have a true Japanese experience, especially an authentic and intimate one like this! Also loved our tea and Japanese treats during our session. Thank you!
