While working as a guide of the city I've met too many visitors, who stay in foreign owned and operated hotels, frequent the same touristy traps, and repeat the same old cliches and stereotypes about Russia. But if you really want to get to the soul of St.Petersburg, and capture its spirit why don't you go to horse's mouth and speak directly to locals to find out about how they live. Normally it is hard to do because average Russian might seem not so friendly at a first glance. The first surprise in what you might discover during communications with Russians is that what you see isn't necessarily be what you get. True, that typically Russians do not smile automatically, rather you have to earn their smiles, and it could be just a few words in Russian, which you stumble over, but believe you me sour faced and gruff looking total strangers would go out of their ways to accommodate to your requests and help you out in a tight spot. But you don't have to worry about learning even basic Russian if you come to us, because we want to speak your language. So if you want to chitchat over a drink with locals, who would wait for your next syllable with the greatest eagerness please join us.
I am a guide in St. Petersburg during the summer season, which is unfortunately too short, so during the rest of the year I have to find for myself something else to do and usually I teach English. And the best way for people to learn it is to practice it with native speakers. So I've been running this little group of mostly Russian people, who want to practice their English for more than 10 years. Normally we meet in a cafe and spend couple of hours talking and it is always interesting and exciting for us especially when we have a guest from another country, because there are always questions about it. I know many Russians who want to do it, and we are always on the lookout for foreigners, it could be a win-win situation for everyone If you want to know about Russia, but don't speak the language, you should join our English meetings.

We visit a local cafe on Nevskyi prospect, where normally Russian people meet. We provide you with the meaningful connection with the place through the luxury of human interaction . And you can get tips about Russian food and drinks, while you at it. You would have a choice from the menu, serving you various types of Russian soups and salads, bliny with different stuffings, cabbage rolls, little and big pies, snacks that are our staple food.
