The restored cabin, which has been featured in the New York Times 'T' travel magazine, Wilder Quarterly, The Weekender and the book 'Jackrabbit Homestead,' was constructed in 1955 and still has its original green paint.

Joshua Tree National Park is a 15 minute drive from the cabin. The Integratron and Giant Rock are also 15 minutes away. The cabin is less than two miles from artist Noah Purifoy's famous sculpture garden site. Two miles in the other direction is Dhamma Dena, teacher Ruth Denison's Vipassana Buddhist center. The always swinging Pappy & Harriet's BBQ and music roadhouse in beautiful Pioneertown is a 30-minute drive. The Lou Harrison House, which hosts occasional devotional, folk and avant garde music events in an intimate setting is less than 10 minutes away. We will be happy to give you directions to each of these unique places (and many others) that we frequent ourselves.

The cabin sits on 5 acres, and feels remote, but it's just 12 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. You will travel a few miles on a secure, hard dirt road to get here. Enjoy the spectacular panoramic sunset and sunrise—as well as a blanket of stars. In the wintertime, you can build a bonfire too. Sleep comfortably in a queen-sized bed.

The renovated interior has a cookware-outfitted kitchen and dining area. There is an outhouse with a dry toilet and roofless shower a few yards from the cabin. Wireless internet is available if you require a connection to the digital world. The cabin is equipped with air conditioning.

The cabin is located next to BLM land and a wildlife corridor, which means you will witness these wild animals in their native habitat. The cottontail rabbits, cactus wrens, lizards, desert tortoises, jackrabbits, coyotes, owls and roadrunners (and more!) that make the desert their home make a visit to this serene cabin all the more special.

Guests may have freshly prepared organic juices made by local juice cleanse guru Angela de la Agua delivered to the cabin. A menu/pricelist is available upon request.

Extra guests can sleep on the air mattress or camp on the site for an additional $30/person per night. This absolutely must be arranged with us ahead of time so that it can be reflected in the Airbnb reservation and bill.

Please note that we have a TW0-NIGHT MINIMUM stay, and a THREE-NIGHT MINIMUM FOR HOLIDAY WEEKENDS. This requirement allows us to keep our rates low, so that the greatest number of folks get a chance to experience being here in the unfenced desert, under the Milky Way.

We donate 2.5% of our proceeds to the Mojave Desert Land Trust, an excellent local non-profit organization devoted to "protect[ing] the Mojave Desert ecosystem and its scenic and cultural resource values."

What an awesome place to recharge our batteries and unwind! Location is beautiful! Spent one day just enjoying the homestead and it's surroundings. The kitchen made it easy to make our own meals. Easy access to beautiful Joshua Tree and other local destinations like the fantastic Pappy & Harriets. Most of our contact was with Jay and he was extremely helpful and told us not to hesitate to call or text him if we needed anything. We didn't need to but it was nice knowing the option was there. Highly recommend!

The cabin is exactly as pictured and described-the perfect getaway for solitude and amazing sunsets. It’s close to Joshua Tree Mational Park and downtown Joshua Tree or Yucca for a bite to eat- but I spent most of my time eating and living simply at the property and enjoying the views!

Our stay at the homesteader cabin was an awesome experience. The location and views were incredible. Sitting under the stars with a bonfire listening to the coyotes was pretty amazing.

Stephanie and Jay's place is quiet with amazing views while still being near to shops, restaurants, and Joshua Tree National Park. We got a fantastic tip on the best park entrance to use to avoid holiday traffic and Jay was so quick to return our messages in regard to questions about the house. I definitely recommend staying here if you need a few days away from the city for an artist/writing retreat or just to get some alone time.

This place is a little slice of heaven under the milky way, loved the outdoor shower, the composting toilet was not as scary as I thought it would be, make sure to bring a flashlight or remember to charge the solar powered on that offered by the hosts. Cooking here was great, made good use of the fire pit and hammock. Dirt road to get there, so make sure your tires are in good shape. Glamping at its best. <3

This secluded homestead was exactly what we were looking for in Joshua Tree. You are "out in the desert" when staying here and the home is uniquely styled with all the essentials.
