Parque
“At 5,200 acres, this is the largest park within any U.S. city. It gets very popular in summer, especially on week- ends, so if you want to check it out be prepared to embrace the crowds. See Witch's Castle under Hikes. ”

“Portland Art Museum has a fine standing collection and lots of fresh, relevant rotating exhibits. You can also enjoy a wide variety of independent and foreign films at the Whitsell Auditorium, part of the NW Film Center. The gift shop is wonderful with lots of gifts for both adults and children that will satisfy both curiosity and the discerning eye. Pay special attention to the major exhibits, they are well worth the price of admission!”

“Some of the best fried chicken around! Their website has a real-time wait time so you can avoid the long lines.”

Bar
“An old elementary school turned restaurant/bar/theater/hotel? What’s not to be intrigued about? Bring $5, a bathing suit, and a towel and you can even pop in the soaking pool for a swim, beer (or wine) in hand! If you aren’t familiar with the McMenamjn brothers, they have over 60 locations in the NW - most of which are quirky, unique spots similar to this. Good beer, cheap 2nd run movies, and a cool atmosphere are a plus, the wait for service can be kind of a drag from time to time, though.”

Botanical Garden
“No visit to the Rose City, Portland, would be complete without a trip to Washington Park and the Rose Gardens. The park boasts over 10,000 rose bushes, around 650 varieties. The roses bloom usually April through October, with peak times in June. Lovely paths wind all through the roses, and the view from their over Portland to Mt. Hood on clear days is truly spectacular.”

“Remember that Portlandia episode where they're watching Battlestar Galactica and they miss a birthday dinner at Screen Door? This is the place. Seriously, everyone goes here for their birthday because it's such a treat. The downside is that it's typically packed. Get there before they open so you can get your name on the list. It's not in the neighborhood but it's also not far.”

“ One of the best breakfast/brunch/dinner spots in the neighborhood and an easy 15min walk. There is almost always a wait but it's quick... walk around the hood while your table awaits.”

Bar de rock

“American fast-food style burger in a bar/restaurant with a nice outdoor patio. Most pubs in the neighborhood offer good, hefty burgers with plenty of dressings, this is a simpler, slightly smaller one, but solid and satisfying. This restaurant is attached to the lovely Mississippi Studios music venue.”
