Pizza.. and not just any pizza. True Italian Margherita pizza, and from a chef - a chef from Naples, Italy even. This is really good pizza.

Seafood. Belgian. This is really a good restaurant. No, it's not cheap but worth a visit (and really close). It's in a building that kept the old Bob Peck Chevrolet dealership awning that arcs around the corner of Glebe and Wilson, making this a definite landmark in the Ballston area.

Drinks & Nightlife

Technically, there are no bars in Virginia. All of them must be restaurants, or at least bar and grills, but the food here is not bad. They also have a pretty decent happy hour, with a good assortment of beers on draft, and it's right next to the Clarendon metro rail station.

The "930 CLUB" is one of the best venues in the entire country to see a live band, rated #1 by Rolling Stone magazine a few years ago. You can take the metro to L'Enfante Plaza and transfer to the Yellow/Green line north toward Greenbelt. When you exit the station you will find yourself on U St, which is yet another dynamic and interesting scene in DC all by itself. Check out Dukem, the Ethiopian restaurant nearby for some real DC culture and fun food :-)

Parks & Nature

Everyone that visits the mall should make a point of taking the walk around the Tidal Basin. It is best to start at the new Martin Luther King Memorial, then the FDR memorial, and continue down to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. The 1-2-3 walk through these beautiful memorials is often the highlight of any visit to Washington, DC., especially during the Cherry Blossom Festival... and when it's not too busy (not Cherry Blossom time), you might even take one of the paddle boats out onto the Tidal Basin itself.

Open from sunrise to sunset, unless there is a performance in the Amphitheater, there are plenty of things to do at Lubber Run Park. Nature walks in the woods by the stream, basketball, volleyball, picnic shelter with charcoal grills, playground, public restrooms, etc. It's all a very short 0.4 mile 9 minute walk to the Recreation Center.
