The first nuclear powered submarine is permanently docked at the (FREE) submarine force museum. Really interesting, and interactive, even if you are not a history buff.

Super fun zoo for the kiddos. There is a water-splash area and lots of hands-on exhibits in the zoo, plus a large park outside the zoo. (Seasonal) It is about 57 minutes away, but worth the drive for a day-trip.

Take the boat over to Block Island and stay all day. Super fun little island off the coast. Rent a bike or moped and cruise the entire island in an afternoon.
