The Idaho State Capitol was built and designed by premier architects Tourtelotte & Hummel. When John Tourtelotte designed the dome, he included barrel style windows that allowed shafts of light to stream down three floors, because he believed Idaho was going through a state of enlightenment. The importance of light was also carried to the additional domes, that flank the center dome, with beautiful stained glass. If you start at the accessible entrance on the bottom, you can do a self guided tour that allows you to meander throughout the beautiful Neoclassical style (construction started in 1905).

The Boise Depot is the most photographed building in the state. With its Mission style architecture the center column is 96' high and you can take a tour once a month with a historian, who dresses up like an old conductor. There is a beautiful garden for picnics and Koi Pond on property and you have the most beautiful views of the entire city from that vantage point.
