Alexandra is 25 minute drive away from the River House and is a larger more established town with a growing 'gourmet' following including the Grant St Grocer (cafe), Alexandra Hotel (gourmet) and Corner Hotel (pub fare).

Outdoor exploring and adventure
Lake Mountain is a 30 minute drive from the property where you can enjoy snow play, tobogganing or cross country skiing in the winter, and hiking and mountain biking in the summer.
The newly established single track mountain bike trails including the epic Cascades Trail from the top of Lake Mountain all the way to Marysville ~ 28km.

The newly established single track mountain bike trails including the epic Cascades Trail from the top of Lake Mountain all the way to Marysville ~ 28km.
The Buxton Mountain Bike Park is a about 500m away. The best time to go is first thing in the morning before any crowds and to ride the park as the sun rises. It is stunning! Also has a small mountain bike circuit for the kids.

If you enjoy hiking, Cathedral Ranges State Park is about 15 minute drive away. There are great day hikes and some challenging rock scrambling hikes. A favourite of ours is to wake up early and climb to the top of Sugarloaf Peak for the sunrise. The quickest way to Sugarloaf Peak from the house is via Mt Margaret Rd on the way to Marysville.

Cathedral Range State Park
Little River RoadIf you enjoy hiking, Cathedral Ranges State Park is about 15 minute drive away. There are great day hikes and some challenging rock scrambling hikes. A favourite of ours is to wake up early and climb to the top of Sugarloaf Peak for the sunrise. The quickest way to Sugarloaf Peak from the house is via Mt Margaret Rd on the way to Marysville.
800 metres of the Acheron River flows along the boundary of the River House. Swim, wade, rock-hop or relax in the fresh water of the Acheron River.
Fish for wild trout in some amazing rivers and streams so close to the property including the Acheron River, Rubicon River, Steavenson River, Little River, the Goulburn River, Lake Eildon and the Eildon Pondage. We encourage ‘Catch and Release’ to ensure wild trout populations remain sustainable.

The trail is for all fitness levels and is the ideal way to enjoy the great outdoors with the family. Take a spin through the historic 201m long Cheviot Tunnel in Yea, visit the tranquil Yea Wetlands and stop for a picnic along the trail.
