Hiking
Moderate day hike with several options for length. Visit all 5 lakes or just a few.
Muddy in the spring, so wear appropriate shoes.
Very busy in the summer so get there early, or go in the evening. There is daylight until 10pm in the summer, so take advantage of the off-peak time and have it all to yourself!

Amazing canyon and waterfalls. Lots of different options for trip length. I like to start at 5th Bridge and walk up to the Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen, then back down. Why not stop for a snack half way?
Parking Tip: If the main parking lot at Maligne Canyon is full, park at the Maligne Overlook, just a hundred metres back on Maligne Rd.

The trail is steep but short and provides amazing views of the townsite and surrounding mountains. For an easier route, go around the backside (starts in forest, not up stairs), then come down the front. Great spot for a sunset picnic. If you're lucky, you might see some bighorn sheep grazing on the hills!

Be Park Smart!
Follow all National Park regulations.
The weather can change at any moment: wear appropriate clothing and footwear even if you're just sightseeing or out for a stroll.
Leave no trace: Do not pick flowers or collect rocks and wood. Dispose of all garbage in proper waste bins or bring it back with you.
Give Wildlife Space: Never approach wildlife. Stay in your vehicle if you see wildlife on the road. Never feed wildlife in the form of giving them food or littering. This includes birds and squirrels! Carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Qué debes empacar
Bring clothes for every type of weather
The weather in the mountains can change at any moment. You should wear appropriate clothing and footwear if heading out sightseeing, walking, and even driving.
Pack or wear many layers that can be taken off or added on. We recommend an insulating layer like a down jacket, and a shell for water and wind.
Always wear good footwear. Something that you don't mind getting dirty and can take you over different terrain. Please don't wear Ugg boots in the winter, or high heels if you're going on a trail.
