South Congress Bat bridge in downtown Austin
At dusk, during March-November a colony of half-a-million bats fly out for the night. Either stand on the bridge or picnic on the side, it’s quite a site. Parking downtown is a chore so prepare to walk a bit.

If you don’t want to drive 30 minutes to downtown Austin to see bats, here is another option. At dusk thousands of bats fly out to consume 20-30 pounds of insects. The spot is on the frontage road of IH 35 and McNeil Dr.
