This is a must see for those exploring the history of Wymondham, ideally situated between Wymondham Abbey and the Arts Centre, the Green Dragon is an absolute gem. The Great Fire of Wymondham, which broke out in 1615, was a major event in the town's history. About three hundred properties were destroyed in the fire, however the Green Dragon survived and scorch marks from the fire can be seen on the building to this day. I highly recommend it for both food and drink, and for the opportunity to step back in time.

Towering over Norwich, the castle has seen many changes in the city, but has remained a beautiful constant. You can definitely while away a few hours here, walking round the museum, into the stunning keep and down into the dungeons...if you dare! A wonderful little museum in the centre of Norwich that really takes you through a historical tour of the city. “From Medieval to modern day, the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell tells the story of the city’s industries and the people who lived and worked here. From the textile trade which was at the heart of the city’s wealth, to the production of shoes, chocolate and mustard, the story of how Norwich constantly adapted to changing fortunes, and coped with two World Wars is told in ten galleries over two floors....” please see the website for opening times and prices.

A joy to walk around inside, and outside through the cloisters, and don’t be surprised if you end up walking out into the most beautiful little mews of cottages at the back! The cathedral was begun in 1096 and constructed out of flint and mortar and faced with a cream-coloured Caen limestone. An Anglo-Saxon settlement and two churches were demolished to make room for the buildings. The cathedral was completed in 1145 with the Norman tower still seen today topped with a wooden spire covered with lead. Several episodes of damage necessitated rebuilding of the east end and spire but since the final erection of the stone spire in 1480 there have been few fundamental alterations to the fabric.

If it’s retail therapy you’re after, then the three storey Chapel Field shopping centre in the heart of Norwich is the place to go. One of the two large shopping centres in Norwich, this one really turned heads when it was built about thirty years ago, almost underneath Norwich castle!
The main shopping centre in Norwich, with all the popular high street shops and a large car park underneath. This is a good base from which to enjoy a day exploring Norwich.

A superb day out for shopping and sight seeing, just an hour down the A11. If you have never been to Cambridge before then I highly recommend a day here, parking can be tricky so I would head for the Cambridge park and ride.
