Dana's London Day Trips

Some nice Day Trips from our place going outside of London. Surprisingly (or not) getting out of London is far easier & quicker than getting around within London, so don't be put off by distance. We're right by the A316 (leads to M3 motorway) and not far from the M4 & M25 motorways. Look at joining Enterprise rent-a-car and Zip car before coming if you don't have car.
The world famous Oxford University is only 55 mins drive away. Take in the heritage and array of pubs in the city, including the many traditional & gastro pubs in the centre. Tolkien supposedly wrote Lord of the Rings in a few of them (yes, a few pubs lay claim to that urban legend!). Spend the afternoon punting on the River Cherwell NOTE : Parking is limited so if going by car try to avoid the weekends as it gets very busy.

Brighton is just over an hour by car and similar from Richmond station (via Clapham Junction). It has become a bit of a trend setting town, renowned for its food, arts & gay pride movement, with a lots of interesting shops and restaurants. For foreigners it simply has to be done to experience fish and chips on a beach of stone pebbles and icy water. And if you do it while it's raining, well, consider yourself British! 1h 30mins by car
