BOOZE!

This category is for those looking to find the best tried and true places for drinks around the Oak City. Here you'll find my favorite breweries and local spots to stop for a cold one (or six), and many of them have good food and flight samplers that I highly suggest!
An absolutely wonderful brewery within 5 minutes of the house! Dog friendly, relaxed, great outdoor beer garden area. I'd highly suggest trying a flight here, lot's of flavors you don't want to miss out on. For IPA people, id suggest the "LBC Potential Differences", "Wye Hill", and "Hop on Top". For the lighter crowd, the "Czech Yourself Pilsner" is great, and for the fruit lovers the "Back That Razz Up" is my personal favorite! All food served at Wilsons (which is also part of LBC) is made from scratch, The Carnitas Tortas is a Raleigh favorite, and Pork Belly here BLT is to die for!

Another Raleigh hot spot for great house brewed beers! Best for lunch, the space is small and the seating is limited, fills up in the evening quick! Dog friendly outdoor seating and mean flatbread pizza! Brews to try here would be the Cloud Surfer IPA the Trophy Wife IPA, as well as the Trophy Husband Whitbier. For a fruity beer, I quite liked the Mango they had on tap. For the ZA, best strategy is to order smaller pizzas so you can mix and share slices. If you like a little spice, the "Daredevil" ghost pepper salami pizza will get you sniffling, but the "Indoor Kid" with white sauce, provolone, and marinated artichokes is my personal favorite.

Local brewery with unique flavors, a great view of downtown Raleigh, and a touch of class $. Not your typical pub food. Great Local, Vegan, and Gluten Free options as well! Dog friendly, but not so kid friendly. I mostly go here for their view and to check out their unique menu, but their Mango IPA is darn good and the Rose Gose is pretty tasty too. I enjoyed the cauliflower hummus and the deviled eggs!

If you've got time before a flight at RDU i'd suggest stopping by here for a beer or two and to watch the planes go by. These folks have been brewing for a bit now and have mastered their craft (brews). I'd highly suggest the Sweet Josie, or their new anniversary beer "X". Or hell, try them all! That's sure to make your flight more enjoyable... just don't miss the plane! No food here, but they often have food trucks and sometimes music on the weekend, their little tour of the taproom they offer is interesting too.

Open, family friendly games, and the place where they make some of the best craft brews in Raleigh! It's only about five or so minutes from the house, so it's one of my favorite stops! There is also a Clouds Brewery downtown that serves up some tasty burgers too, but it's usually a bit busier. Somehow, the brews taste better at the Taproom it seems. The knowledgeable staff can help you sample some new stuff and guide you to beer you're sure to love. I'd suggest the Hop J.A.M IPA and Wolkenbrau Lager!

A local favorite for the craft brew lovers! BIG and fun industrial chic interior that's great for large groups, and also dog friendly! Little arcade area to kill some time in while you sip, and they sometimes have music! Usually about 12 beers on tap, a lot of people go here for their IPAS. The Mountain Time IPA was really tasty here, the Gose was delicious, and I really liked their Big Boss Lager. No AC here, so dress light!

HOLY MOTHER OF BEER TAPS, BATMAN! Wanna catch them all? Literally? All of them? I'm pretty sure you can find at least a dozen beers here you'll love. This place has 366 individual taps of beer, setting the new world record for most beers on tap last I checked. Oh.. and the food is amazing too! Oh, did I mention... ITS HUGE!? Three floors to explore and a hugeeeee outdoor seating area. Honestly? Just go here. It's one of my favorite places and it will soon be yours too. I could spend an hour describing all my favorites on tap here, but i'll just have you try some yourself. The UNTAPPED beer app is very very handy for sorting through what's best on this beer list, and the barkeeps are very helpful in guiding you to a new brew too. I'd try to stick to lunch and early afternoon. Glenwood Ave is a circus late nights on the weekend, it's really hard to get your UBER to you through all the traffic during late night.

A little bitty Asheville based brew bar that holds a special place in my heart. Right next door to the Transfer CO. Food Hall, so it makes for a great place to catch a beer before dinner. I was here for it's opening not long ago and it's fantastic (and apparently expanding)! Lots of unique art posted all over the place gives you something interesting to look at while you sip. (FYI: Card Only Bar) Burial is good for the heady and heavy beer lover (stouts, IPAS, and sours). They have amazing limited release beers here that people literally line up for, and the hazy IPAS are great! Golden Sours here are also very tasty and worth a try.

This incredibly friendly tavern themed pub is one of my absolute favorites. They have great Monday 4$ pint night specials and great pub food too. Outdoor seating is dog friendly too! Very good decorating inside, here the locals can earn a 'pint plate' to stick on the wall if they drink a certain amount of beers, and the place is filled with them. You could spend a week and throw out your neck reading all the funny things people put on them. HUGE beer menu, and incredibly friendly staff. I had an amazing Bourbon Barrel Stout that knocked my socks off here, and all of their ales are incredible. I think they have about 150 beers on tap here, so selection is surely not a problem. Parking decks very close by, so finding a space is a piece of cake. Order an app of any kind, or anything with their beer cheese on it. It's all fantastic!

A consistently great bar and beer store with good eats and tasty beer list. Ideal for dog lovers and people tagging along with big groups. I come here for the occasional quick bite with friends. We bring our dogs and play cornhole outside. Nothing too crazy or over the top here, but people flock for their "Hell Yes Ma'am Pale Ale" (which is REALLY good). Other good ones to try are the "Not Another 'Hazy' IPA", and the "First Squeezed Wheat" for the lighter fruit-loving crowd.

An itty bitty local place that crafts and sells its own tasty rum varities! Also a great place to listen and learn from experts about the rum crafting process. Try their Amaretto, it goes down smooth and I liked it a lot, also the Dark rum there makes an excellent dark and stormy cocktail!

A four in one stop! Voted as one of the USA's top 10 new restaurants. A flower shop, restaurant, bookstore, and brewery. This place, while a little on the pricier side, has an incredibly cool vibe to it, great for a date night or special occasion! A place so nice I've named it twice! Lynwood Brewing Company is right across from it and owns both. Dog Friendly. Everything here is reasonably priced and made from scratch. Highly suggest the Chopped Salad, Ginger Lettuce Wraps, Carnitas Tortas, and the Porkbelly BLT. Pork Nachos are amazing too and easy to share if you're just looking to pick at something over a good brew. Honestly though, whatever you order, you can't go wrong, even if its for fries and their house made beer cheese (made with their own beer!) Come on the right night, and you may find me there myself!

Outside the museum is the 164-acre Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park, recently expanded and featuring monumental public art installations inspired by the natural world and preservation of landscapes, including the Gyre rings, Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky and Askew, as well as several recreational activities, picnic spots, and wooded trails. Tours are given daily if you or a group would like to learn more about the collections. When it’s time for lunch, you can stop by the Iris restaurant located inside the museum, specializing in contemporary American cuisine in a modern setting. (Also open for dinner! Order from items such as the Iris Burger, Seared Scallops with Red Curry Lemongrass Broth, Seafood Burrito and more.) For those interested in researching art periods or artists, the Art Reference Library holds over 40,000 volumes of books and available catalogs and databases. Kids to seniors can enjoy the many programs occurring throughout the year, including classes, concerts, films, camps, and workshops. Before you leave, head by the Museum Store, where items based on the museum’s collections and exhibits are available to purchase, perfect as souvenirs or gifts for family and friends. Admission is free, while some fees are given for specific programs, exhibitions, and large tours. Hours: Tues.-Thurs., 10am-5pm; Fri., 10am-9pm; Sat.-Sun., 10am-5pm; Mon., closed.

One of my favorite places for a quick dip and a little fishing. I almost always catch a bass here, and even if I don't, the trails and swimming always cheer me up!

Smart, modern and a little unexpected, CAM Raleigh (Contemporary Art Museum) is hands down a favorite among locals, and for good reason. This striking, non-collecting contemporary art museum, located in downtown Raleigh's rapidly-growing warehouse district. It displays new and emerging work by local and national living artists and is a neat little place to walk around sometimes

Located near North Carolina State University, Lake Johnson Park is a popular spot for students and professionals to get some exercise—a paved, three-mile greenway loop, plus two miles of unpaved trails, draw lots of joggers and walkers (and dogs, too!). The lake itself spans more than 150 acres and offers a wide variety of boats for rent.

A great little stop for some fresh air and a little disc golfing fun! I go here a lot with friends and always enjoy it. Discs at the local play-it-again sports are usually 5-20$ if you don't have your own to bring.

This place is huge, fenced in, and is my favorite dog park around town! There are always plenty of pooches to romp with and wear out your pup, and they even have separate play areas with seating for both large and small dogs!
