Sightseeing

Blackpool has a lot to offer. There are plenty sights most definitely worth seeing. Listed below are the ones which could be considered a must.
Blackpool Tower is Blackpool's most iconic landmark and famous tourist attraction. Built between 1891-1894, the tower is 518 foot high and is a grade one listed building. Inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was commissioned by the Tower company in response to the opening of the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens. The architects were Maxwell and Tuke of Manchester, both of whom unfortunately died before the Tower was completed.

Food

Blackpool has plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, but these are my favourites. I like them for quality of food, price and their nice surroundings.
The Heritage Coffee Shop not only has great food but also place for larger groups, so perfect for families. It's very reasonably priced, privately owned and makes a nice differences to the more "traditional" Blackpool coffee shops. Highly recommend it.

You can have afternoon tea in the ball room - how nice is that. It is the most iconic building in Blackpool visiting is simply a must. They offer afternoon tea for two or for families. https://www.theblackpooltower.com/plan-your-visit/food-and-retail/afternoon-tea/

The Italian Restaurant, St Marco's is only a short walk from the flat (turn right when you come out of the front door). I like their pizzas but have never had their pasta, etc. Mostly I like the atmosphere (very 1980) with friendly staff. You can also order a take-aways. Tel 01253 404010

Another Italian restaurant within walking distance from the flat (turn right) and more or less opposite St Marco's. In terms of food, Italio is probably better than St Marco's but, the staff can be a little inattentive and for an Italian meal out I still prefer St Marco's (which of course is a matter of personal preference). Italio does takeaways too. Tel: 01253 400910

Right by the sea front and about 10 minutes walk from the flat is the Velvet Coaster (Weatherspoon Pub). It offers good food at reasonable prices and always has family offers on too. It's great in the summer because it has a balcony overlooking the sea.

Thrills

Adrenaline Zone at South Pier. There's a Skycoaster, a spinning Skyscreamer, and a Spider Mountain. All this within walking distance to the flat. I have never done any of these because I am too scared but I've heard they are very good. https://www.adrenalinezone.co.uk/
The Adrenaline Zone at South Pier is within easy walking distance to the flat and if you have the nerve... And right opposite is the Velvet Coaster pub for a nerve relaxing drink (after the jump!)

Walking

Blackpool has one of the longest sandy beaches in the country and is perfect for walking. The Beach is only about 7 minutes walk from the flat and offers beautiful sunsets and very relaxing walks. You can either head towards Lytham St Anne's or towards Blackpool. And, if you get tiered just take either tram or - even simpler - bus Nos 68 or 11 back to the flat (this works particularly well if you walked to Lytham St Anne's - my favourite walk).
You can walk literally for miles and miles.

Lytham is definitely worth a visit. It has a beautiful beach promenade and lots of great restaurants and bars. It is easy to get to from the flat. Either take the Nos 68 or 11 bus straight into Lytham or walk. The walk is fair one though, about 8 miles. But, you can rest nearly halfway at the lovely pier in Lytham St Annes where they do really great fish and chips and the largest sandwiches ever.

Walk from the flat to Lytham St Ann's (about 45 minutes) and have a rest at the pier cafe, which - in my opinion - has the best fish and chips ever. You can then either walk back, walk on to Lytham or take the bus (No 68 and No 11) back. The choice is yours.

Boating

Fairhaven Lake in Lytham is really a great place to hire a boat and hang out on the water. There's another boating lake in Stanley Park, Blackpool, which is closer but it really is not as nice as Fairhaven.
Fairhaven Lake at Lytham, is a lovely area on the seafront, where you can hire motor boats, rowing boats and canoes. You’ll find it near to Granny’s Bay where there’s plenty of free on-street parking on the seafront. If you prefer, there’s also a pay and display car par.

Piers

Blackpook has three great piers and they all have their unique attractions. There are South, Central and North Pier. South Pier was opened in 1893. It was constructed, at a total cost of £50,000, using a different method than that used for North and Central piers, the Worthington Screwpile System. It was built shorter and wider than North and Central piers to accommodate pavilions. Central Pier is constructed mostly of cast iron with wooden decking. The piles on which the structure rests were driven using the screw pile method pioneered by Eugenius Birch. This involved twisting screw-tipped cast iron piles down through the sand until they hit bedrock. The materials and building techniques were similar to those used for North Pier but the structure of Central is a little more delicate in appearance.
Really good family fun. There's a family bar and rides, games and stalls, kiosks and a cafe. A definite must.

The success of the North Pier prompted the formation of the Blackpool South Jetty Company one year later in 1864. Impressed with the construction of Blackpool Pier (North Pier), the company hired the same contractor, Richard Laidlaw and Son of Glasgow for the project. When the pier was opened on 30 May 1868, it was 503 yards in length, 131 yards of which was a landing jetty for use at low tide. From the start, the new pier's emphasis was on fun rather than the genteel relaxation provided at North Pier. Today it offers attractions, amusements, shows and shopping.

North Pier, English Heritage Grade II listed, is the most northerly of the three coastal piers in Blackpool. Built in the 1860s, it is also the oldest and longest of the three. Although originally intended only as a promenade, competition forced the pier to widen its attractions to include theatres and bars.

Water Fun

Walk from the flat to the Sandcastle (Waterpark) for a great fun day out. You can also have a bite to eat at the Sandcastle but I'd recommend you cross the road and enjoy the Velvet Coaster's family offers. Great views on the top floor over the sea.
