Neighbourhoods

We are in the tiny hamlet of Little Hautbois (pronounced Hobbis). The nearest village of Coltishall is only a mile stroll from your door via various footpaths such as via the river or the Bure Valley Steam railway. It is a lovely, well served village, with several pubs, takeaways, a bakery, cafés and the beautiful River Bure meandering through. From your door you can take a walk along the path of the Bure Valley Steam Railway, it is a narrow-gauge railway and runs regular steam trains between Aylsham and Wroxham. At the top of the steps by the ponds, if you turn right then that takes you towards Coltishall and eventually Wroxham and left will take you towards Brampton and eventually Aylsham. It is 4 miles each direction to their end points. The trains always sound their horns at Hautbois, which is the halfway point of the track. If you wave, they very often whistle again and many of the people aboard will wave back, especially the children! You can jump aboard at Coltishall or drive to either Aylsham or Wroxham and go on the railway and enjoy time in either town then pop back aboard. The pathway running alongside the track is used by walkers and cyclists, and there are lots of points along the path to dip off and see the small villages that the line passes through. There are lovely walks along the riverside at Oxnead and Brampton to Buxton, which you can make circular or come back the way you came as it is so pretty. Lots of wildlife to see and if you are very quiet plenty of Kingfishers. If the river is still, then you can see many fish and crayfish. The next nearest town is Wroxham and is known as the Heart of the Broads, here you can hire boats, browse the shops or just sit by the river and feed the swans. Canoe and SUP hire can be arranged locally via the Canoe man 07873 748408
