Waipi’o Valley overlook showcasing a breathtaking and historic valley with a beautiful black sand beach.
Waipi‘o valley was home to old Hawaiian kings and once upon a time was densely populated. Now however, Waipi‘o valley is mostly wilderness interspersed with taro fields (Taro is a traditional Hawaiian staple food) and a couple of dozens of inhabitants.
It is possible to drive down into The Valley, but I recommend with 4 wheel drive and good breaks are needed.

A must see when you are in Hilo! That’s on the other side of the island 5 minutes outside Hilo town. You can park for free and walk right up to the waterfall. After a couple rainy days, The Rainbow falls are raging with fresh water. Beautiful location!

ʻAkaka Falls State Park is a state park on Hawaiʻi Island, in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The park is about 11 miles north of Hilo, west of Honomū off the Hawaii Belt Road at the end of Hawaii Route 220. It includes its namesake ʻAkaka Falls, a 442-foot tall waterfall.
Looks out for a couple of fruit stands that are on the side of the road just a few minutes before your arrival at the ‘Akamai Falls. Get yourself a free Coconut. You won’t regret it!

The scenic lanai offers an incomparable view of Kealakekua Bay, where the famous explorer Captain James Cook first arrived in Hawaii. The restaurant is perched high on the mountain slope overlooking the lush mountainside of fully producing 85 year old coffee trees.
Enjoy the beautiful open lanai for breakfast, lunch, or just a quick cup of coffee.

Beach Day
Hapuna Beach is the Big Island’s largest sandy beach, stretching nearly a half mile from north to south. Expect calm surf in the summer and fall, and rough water with larger waves in the winter. Hapuna Beach is of the best locations on the Big Island for boogie boarding and body surfing.
