Beaches
Lagoa, as a city, has nothing special to visit, but it is near Silves and has amazing small beaches in its county. They are probably full of people in the summer. Some of these beaches are, Marinha, Carvalho, Vale Centeanes, Albandeira, Sra da Rocha, Cova redonda, etc. A few less-known ones may be a little bit harder to get there. Just open google maps and, in the area between Armação de Pera and Ferragudo you have a lot to choose from.

General advice
As a general rule. the best restaurants, bars and tascas are the ones with local people and no signs written in foreign languages.
As for cities and areas to visit, you may like places like Faro, Albufeira and Lagos, and the villages of Ferragudo and Alvor... they may be crowded in summer but they are all fine! As for the west of the Algarve, meaning the area beetwen Lagos and Sagres, and the Costa Vicentina are much more unknown, quiet and relaxed, while windy and a little bit colder, It is a great area to visit
