It has a magnificent Norman cathedral, imposing castle housing the city’s museum and art gallery, pretty winding streets packed with independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants and a vibrant cultural scene. Winterton-on-Sea
The nearest stretch of coast, and one of the nicest, is at Winterton-on-Sea just 40 minutes’ drive away where you will find endless sand dunes and basking seals galore. Don't miss the wonderful Fisherman's Rest pub in the village or the nearby Nelson Head at Horsey
Neighbourhoods
Swardeston is a quiet village about 3 miles south west of Norwich surrounded by fields and pretty lanes. You will find lots of lovely walks on the doorstep. Head straight out of our gate and quarter of a mile down the lane just over the bridge you come to Swardeston Common; in the summer you can watch champion cricket side Swardeston play on the green.
And the quiet lanes around us are ideal for cycling with no steep hills - well not many anyway!
Local pubs include The Cellar House and Red Lion both in Eaton, the Marsh Harrier at Harford Bridge and the World’s End at Mulbarton. For gastro pubs further afield there is the excellent Bird in the Hand at Wreningham and The Wildebeest at Stoke Holy Cross.
As for shops, there is a Waitrose in Eaton and a large Tesco at Harford Bridge on the A140, each about 2 miles away. Mulbarton has a small Co-op and Budgens, both with extended opening hours, Budgens also has a post office.
There’s a local farm shop, The Paddocks, at Mulbarton and, even closer at hand, you can buy home-grown beef and lamb from The Pantry at nearby Intwood Farm. There is a small bakery in the village (by the garage on the main road) but they do close quite early so don’t leave it until after lunch to buy a loaf!
Nearest newsagent is Cringleford Stores on Intwood Road (1½ miles).
