This area is known for its music especially bluegrass and Appalachian string band. If you are looking for a show you won't have to travel too far to find one!
The Blue Ridge Music Center celebrates the music and musicians of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Each spring, summer, and fall, we welcome thousands of visitors to enjoy some of the region’s finest traditional music, including bluegrass, old-time, folk, Americana, country blues, and gospel. Guests are invited to delight in performances, exhibits, jams, and additional experiences.
Located near Galax, Virginia, at milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Visitor Center and Museum are open May through October. Admission to the Visitor Center and Museum is free. The grounds are home to an outdoor amphitheater and an indoor interpretive center. The indoor center features a theater, gift shop, and museum that highlights the American musical culture still thriving in the region. Guests are welcome to dance to and learn about the music we are proud to support.

The New River Trail is part of the Rails to Trails project and spans 52 miles from Galax, VA, to Pulaski, VA. It is a beautiful trail that follows the winding curves of one of the oldest rivers in the world. The path is paved in some areas and graveled in others. Bikers from all over come to ride these trails every summer.

The Surry Scenic Bikeway, in the Yadkin Valley wine region of northwest North Carolina, has more than 500 miles of officially designated routes. Most are rural loops, taking advantage of Surry County’s rolling terrain in the foothills of the Blue Ridge.

Fisher River Park offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. The park is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and supplies an ideal climate for nature enthusiasts. Maintained by Surry County's Parks and Recreation Department, Fisher River Park will always be safe, clean, and beautiful.

The Little Fisher River, from the Virginia state line to the N.C. 89 bridge, is a 7.8-mile hatchery-supported stream stocked with brook, rainbow, and brown trout between March and July. Anglers can harvest up to seven trout per day on hatchery-supported rivers from April until the end of February. Hatchery-supported trout waters are open from 7 a.m. on the first Saturday in April until one-half hour after sunset on the last day of February the following year.

The hike runs through an old-growth forest and is rated moderate. The last portion of the trail includes a significant amount of downhill terrain to the falls on Big Elkin Creek.
The trailhead to Carter Falls connects in the other direction to a segment of North Carolina's Mountains-to-Sea Trail. This segment goes through nearby Byrd's Branch Campground and includes a 0.4-mile spur trail (one way) from the Mountains-to-Sea Trail to Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery.
