Food scene

Ted’s pies are amazing, try the chocolate haupia (coconut) pie. Excellent breakfasts and plate lunches. Eat at the picnic tables or cross the street to the beach behind the bike path. Walking distance from the studio, or use the bikes (a little under half a mile)!

Keep going north on Kamehameha Highway and you’ll smell these stands before you see them. Local shrimp and prawns from the shrimp ponds just behind them. Fresh daily, cooked Kahuku style - lots of butter and garlic. Or, take some home and cook them yourself - my dad made Maryland style shrimp using these beauties and it was the best of both worlds.

Absolutely beautiful and good food at the redesigned Turtle Bay pool, overlooking the ocean. Really great drinks (and heavy pours) and yummy sandwiches and salads. No reservation needed here.

My husband swears this is the best poke on the island, it’s a tie for me. Anyway, really chill food truck by Shark’s Cove, there’s a cute cat who will sit next to you if he thinks there’s a piece of ahi in it for him. I love their California bowl.

Really good tacos and burritos here, at the food trucks by Sharks Cove/Pupukea. I really like the fish taco and the taco salad. Their brick and mortar location in Hauula is also great with a few more options.

Fruit stands

Take a right out of our street and head north. You’ll see the cows that have just moved into the Waiale’e area, where our family has had fun volunteering with the North Shore Community Land Trust to kakua (to help) care for the land. If you’re looking for a great way to spend a Saturday, I can help To put you in touch with this group. On the right, you’ll see fresh pineapple and fruit stands across the street from the beach.

Iconic Beaches

Sunset Beach, known for its surf and the green pop you might be able to see if there’s no glare at sunset. About half a mile south along the bike path.
