There are 4 tees for each hole, two for competition and two normal tees, both for gentlemen and for ladies, with wide putting surfaces and flanked by strategically placed, carefully maintained sand traps. The course has plenty of wide paths for buggies attractively hidden behind rows of beautiful fruit trees. However, the avocado tree (or Persea índica, its scientific name) is not the only tree on the course, as there are numerous other species such as the eucalyptus, orange tree, lemon tree, cactus, pine tree, fig tree, olive tree, mango and many others which form part of the varied flora of this beautiful enclave, not to mention the immense variety of birdlife which also inhabits the estate, including a magnificent booted eagle. Although the fairways, like the bunkers, are wide, it is not an easy round and you will need to hit long and accurate shots to continue to make par hole after hole. There is a big difference between the first 9 holes and the back 9, so much so that you might almost think you were playing on two different courses. On the first 9, the fairways are quite wide though pretty uneven and both the trees and the water act as natural hazards. On the second stretch, the course is flatter and sown with orange trees (“naranjos” in Spanish), so its not hard to guess where the club gets its name.

However all the holes offer individual challenges and amazing scenery. If you have time, walk up to the championship tee box on the 16th and take in the spectacular views of the entire resort. You can even see the coastline from this height. Good luck crossing the lake on this par 3 hole. The 18th hole is also interesting and then it is downhill all the way to the 19th where you can relax in style after an enjoyable round of golf. Campo Asia (1991) is also a spectacular course, if a little tighter than the Campo America. It measures 5,925 m and is a par 72. The 1st, 9th, 10th and 18th are all located beside the club house. Two interesting holes with water hazards on the 5th and 12th. The 11th is a picturesque par 3. Watch where you hit the ball on the 9th or you might end up in trouble. As in the Campo America, club selection from the tee is paramount. Pick a driver at every par four or five and it will show up as ugly numbers on your scorecard. However a little forethought and ‘local knowledge’ by using a strokesaver will result in an enjoyable round and hopefully, a lower score. There is no clear agreement on which is the better course of the two established La Cala tracks. Many a clubhouse conversation has carried on to the early hours of the morning with the relative merits of the two courses being debated. The obvious solution is to play both and make up your own mind. Campo Europa was inaugurated in March 2005. Course designer Cabell B. Robinson says the biggest difference between the three courses is that the new course has the Ojen river in play on eight holes.
