Yekaterina's Gate (.k.a. Catherine's Gate, Poarta Ecaterinei), appears Disneyesque in style and is the only original city gate surviving from medieval times. It was built in 1559 by the Tailors’ Guild, replacing an older gate destroyed by the 1526 flood. It is named after St. Catherine's Monastery, formerly located nearby. Four small corner turrets symbolize the town's judicial autonomy and the "right of the sword" (ius gladii) including capital punishment. Brasov's coat of arms (a crown on an oak tree trunk and roots) appears above the portal. During medieval times this gate (then called Porta Valacce) was the only entrance for Romanians living inside Brasov fortress. During the Saxon rule from the 13th to 17th century Romanians were forbidden from owning property inside the fortress. They settled outside the wall in a neighbourhood named Şcheii Braşovului. Romanians could only enter the city at certain times and had to pay a toll at this gate for the privilege of selling their produce inside the fortress. Yekaterina's Gate is on the east side of a small park and is accessible at all times.

Mount Tampa is a hike anyone can do for around 2-3h. I suggest you go on the path that starts around "Sub Tâmpa" restaurant to see the Șaua Tâmpei, there are some fantastic views around the north cliff and continue upward to the place above the Brasov sign to take some pictures and then move to the sign and in the end, get down on the other path.

Originally a catholic church - Lutheran/Protestant after 1542 - the church was built between 1383 and 1477 in gothic style. After the fire that destroyed a big part of it in 1689; it was rebuilt in baroque style (hence the name -"Black Church"- due to the blackened stones that were reused to rebuild the church - where possible) There are tiny decorations and frescoes inside the church. Also, there are several details you can find out about from the guides inside - you have free guidance in Romanian, Hungarian, English and/or German languages (for Romanian and/or Hungarian guidance look for Bea - she was great in explaining the details about the church and its history). So when you are in Brasov - check out the Black Church - the 2nd biggest church in Romania; it is something to be seen!

A spectacular castle built on the hill, okay, we all know Dracula was not real, but this is about the history and Vlad The Impaler. The castle takes on a fairy tale appearance, perched on the hill. Plenty of rooms to look into, a nice inner courtyard, and information about the history of the castle throughout. The grounds are nice, with lakes, and green areas, and there is a market just outside, where you can look around and perhaps get a gift for your visit.

TOURISTIC SHEEPFOLD RESTAURANT TRADITIONAL KITCHEN There is no better place to set a sheepfold than a meadow. And if the meadow is in Poiana Braşov, then the sheepfold cannot be but the touristic sheepfold, a place of feasts and pleasant halts, where Sergiana invites you in for a meal. Whenever you please!
