A neighborhood with a Greenwich Village vibe, Newtown is a great place to stray from tourist traffic and duck into funky clothing, books, homewares and tea shops housed in Victorian-style buildings. The plentiful cafes and restaurants along King Street have earned the roadway the nickname of 'Eat Street.'

A cliff top coastal walk, the Bondi to Coogee walk extends for six km in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The walk features stunning views, beaches, parks, cliffs, bays and rock pools. The beaches and parks offer a place to rest, swim or a chance to eat at one of the cafes, hotels, restaurants or takeaways. All beaches offer picnic shelters, electric barbecues, play areas, kiosks, toilets and change-rooms. The walk is not difficult, there are medium gradient paths and several staircases with occasional seating. It takes about two hours to complete the Bondi to Coogee Beach section of the walk and another hour and a half if you choose to continue to Maroubra.

Built in 1858 Sydney Observatory is a fascinating heritage site and public observatory. The quintessential visit is a night tour of 90 minute duration which includes telescope viewing and a 3D Space Theatre experience with a planetarium experience in cloudy weather. Day tours are designed for tourists and include a Planetarium 'virtual sky' experience, solar viewing (weather permitting) and a 3D Space Theatre in 30-40 minute tours. Entry to the Observatory is free during the day, tours are a small extra charge ($10 adult or you can use the iventure Sydney card) but well worth it to experience modern astronomy and solar viewing with an astronomer. Night tours ($18 adult) must be booked and prepaid.

Does it get more iconically Australian than a restaurant overlooking Bondi Beach? We think not. If you’re keen on a quintessentially Aussie dining experience then Icebergs is a must-do.
