Take a drive around the lake, clockwise. After visiting South Shore (take the tram up Heavenly), view Emerald Bay and keep driving up the west side to Sunnyside. It's one of our favorite spots for outdoor dining on the lake.

Also, they diverted part of the creek and created an aquarium for visitors to see the fish that live in the area. It’s really cool and totally off the regular tourist path. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is located approximately 3 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on the lake side of Highway 89. The Visitor Center entrance is just past the entrance to the Tallac Historic Site and Fallen Leaf Lake Road

Ehrman Mansion is worth a tour. Lots of hiking trails to enjoy. Great for a picnic. One of our favorite piers on the lake. At times during the summer, kayaks and stand-up paddle can be rented here.

In the winter, this is a great place to ski. This is our resort of choice when the wind closes down other ski resorts (such as Squaw Valley). The trees provide fairly good protection from the wind. Lots of long gentle slopes for those who like blues and plenty of tree skiing and some steep runs for those who like blacks.
In the summer, there are many fun options in the village (roller skating, yes it’s really fun) and take the gondola up to the top of the mountain for some spectacular hiking trails. Mountain bikers love this place in the summer.
