tourist attractions

There are a lot of cosy and pleasant restaurants and coffee shops in the mediteranian style in Makarska, but my favourite ones are: - "Romana" coffee shop and pastry - "Riva" restaurant -Biokovo - nature park - Vepric, Makarska - Malacological museum, Makarska
No matter if you visit it in the morning or at the sunset, this place offers you a beautiful view at the see, at the peninsulas St. Peter and Osejava. It also offers very delicious cakes and ice cream.

Biokovo Nature Park is the most dominating presence on the southern Dalmatian coast. Proclaimed a nature park in 1981, this mountain rampart towers a good 1500 meters over the Makarska Riviera and offers exceptional views over the sea and nearby islands. It is one of Croatia's most popular destinations for hikers with myriad paths that wind up the hills past olive groves, vineyards and pine forests. The Biokovo massif that stretches 36 kilometers along the coast and nine kilometers inland drops down in a series of craggy limestone rocks and sheer cliffs interspersed with caves, pits and sinkholes. The most popular hiking and mountaineering destination is Vosac (1421 meters) which lies only 2.5 kilometers from Makarska.

The Sanctuary is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. In the grounds are a small Chapel, outside altar etc. The Chapel is well worth a visit. The grounds are in a beautiful setting and it is very peaceful. There is a small café. It was about a 20 minute walk from the city centre.

The Malacological Museum of the Franciscan monastery was founded in 1963 by Fra Jure Radić. With its attractive collection of sea snails and shells from the Adriatic Sea, as well as from the rest of the world, it is the most famous malacological collection in Croatia. Along with the rich malacological collection of Fra Jure Radić, the museum also has a valuable collection of the flora of Biokovo Mountain and a smaller paleontological collection. The Malacological Museum of Makarska is a shellfish museum - protective outer cases of molluscs. It is the result of continuous and hard work of the priest and scientist Fra Jure Radić, PhD, with the support and cooperation of numerous people, scientists, museum employees and collectors and particularly, his faithful colleague Fra Franjo Carev. Their motto was: "Of the people, by the people, for the people".
