Can be busy on the weekends so do expect a wait - but the breakfast is worth it (they take pride in their Huevos Rancheros). Adorable interior and pretty awesome atmosphere. 8 Minutes from the cabin.

BRING YOUR DOG! This is my absolute favorite Truckee brewery - it's super relaxed with lounge chairs and a pool table in additon to the classic bar seating. My favorite part is that you can bring in your pups and allow them to wander inside off-leash and meet with other dogs and new people. Please note that although they can be off leash there isn't enough room for your dogs to roughhosue with other dogs - leave that to the dog parks! Also when you drive over it's in a bit of an empty area with paint shops etc - but don't be discouraged, it's great! 14 Minutes away.

Getting Around
7 Minutes away from the cabin you can park in the parking lot and go to the Gateway Center bus stop to hop on the T.A.R.T Highway 89 Line and head over to squaw. This works well for late risers on crowded weekends who don't want to drive in traffic and hunt for parking. You'll still have to walk about a block with your skis form the T.A.R.T drop off to the squaw gondola but saves you a lot of hassle. T.A.R.T Highway 89 Line picks up every half hour (8:30, 9:30, 10:30 etc) but check the schedule and look online for Real Time Bus arrivals. One way fares are $1.75 and you can pay on the bus with cash (exact change is recommended).

Parks & Nature
An easy DOG FRIENDLY paved trail that is a great way to walk into downtown truckee (about 40 minutes). Walking into downtown truckee is all downhill, walking back from truckee is easy as well but you will gain about 350 ft in elevation. There are often other off leash dogs and a few bikers on the trail. 3 Minute drive from the cabin to the trailhead. You can also walk to the Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co if you keep left at the all the trail forks!

Northwoods BoulevardAn easy DOG FRIENDLY paved trail that is a great way to walk into downtown truckee (about 40 minutes). Walking into downtown truckee is all downhill, walking back from truckee is easy as well but you will gain about 350 ft in elevation. Guests under the age of 3 are free. They often have weekend events or competitions (i.e. snowman making, tubing bowling, etc).

Expert skiing that can't be beat in my opnion. The Village has restaurants and shops with cozy outdoor fireplaces. Every Saturday evening there are fireworks (in the winter) and there are often festivals and other events on the weekends. Please note that it can be quite crowded on popular weekends - I would recommend arriving early. Also REI offers ticket discounts to REI Members if you stop at an REI store on the way up.

The Village at Squaw Valley Hotel
1750 Village East RdExpert skiing that can't be beat in my opnion. The Village has restaurants and shops with cozy outdoor fireplaces. Every Saturday evening there are fireworks (in the winter) and there are often festivals and other events on the weekends. Please note that it can be quite crowded on popular weekends - I would recommend arriving early. Also REI offers ticket discounts to REI Members if you stop at an REI store on the way up.
Solid skiing and a wonderful alternative to Squaw for those crowded weekends when you're looking for something more mellow and to avoid the crowds!

This is where I learned to ski! Only 6 minutes away from the cabin it's the perfect spot for kids. With only two lifts it's not the most extensive ski hill, but there are at least 13 different runs down the mountain and a learning area with tow rope for beginners.

11603 Snowpeak WayThis is where I learned to ski! Only 6 minutes away from the cabin it's the perfect spot for kids. With only two lifts it's not the most extensive ski hill, but there are at least 13 different runs down the mountain and a learning area with tow rope for beginners.
A perfect place for easy hiking around Donner Lake and mellow cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Just follow the summer access road that is closed in the winter due to the snow. It's about 3 miles.

SKI & SNOWBOARD RENTALS! As a kid, when I'd grow out of everything within a year, this is where I would get my season ski and boot rentals. They're unbelievably nice, price effective, helpful and flexible - I really can't recommend them enough. 10 Minutes away. They also have a new store close by Squaw.

They're unbelievably nice, price effective, helpful and flexible - I really can't recommend them enough. 10 Minutes away. They also have a new store close by Squaw.
Although I've always used the Tahoe Dave's in Downtown Truckee I'm sure this spot has equally wonderful service and prices.
