Our favorites: The bonsais and koi fish near the Welcome Center. And if you drive in much farther, our secret spot that took us years of visiting to discover is the Asian Collections/Camellia Collection/Dogwood Collections. Grab a free map at the visitor center.

10th St. & Constitution Ave. NWOur favorite museum. Always crowded, always worth it. You can't see it all in one day - our favorites are the mammals, the fossils, the bones, the insects (kids fav), the oceans. There is an upcharge for the butterfly gardens that is really nice too.
You can see it all in an hour or so. Make sure to find the carnivorous plants, in the inside part on the back left.

This one is deep cut! I would only go if you have a car. It's a quick drive, but hard to get to with public transport and since its small, you will only spend 30-60 minutes there, so not worth springing for an uber. And there isn't anything else of interest nearby. Best in Summer when the water lilies are out! Can be muddy too, so wear sturdy shoes.
