Food Scene

Medieval Portuguese Restaurant. Great place to eat & drink, a few euros more but worth it. No potatoes - they were not available in the middle ages. Illumination is by candles. Sit on goatskins on massive wooden furniture. Highly recommended by those that eat here!

SO many reasons to love this place. It's just a 4 min walk from Casa Ceres. Senhor Antonio is one of the best hosts in the business and provides great food at very affordable prices. Traditional Portuguese cuisine with the freshest ingredients, many grown by the family. The steaks have become a thing of legend. Hundreds of our guests visit every year - not one has anything but the highest praise. We are very lucky to have this gem on our doorstep. (Not open on Sundays)

Sightseeing

The mighty Knights Templar Castle in Tomar. A jewel in the many great monuments of Portugal and a place of world changing history. Initially built in 1160 as the Templar headquarters featuring a Charola based on the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. Later it became the base for the new order of Convento de Cristo. In medieval times it was from here that Henry the Navigator planned the "Age of Discoveries". It is a very special place and has a "feeling" it is difficult to describe in words. A MUST visit!

Not really a park, but a great place to get close to nature. 2 km long lake with many inlets and a great place for a picnic. Swimming is possible.

The dam is the highest man made structure in Portugal and worth a visit. But it's the lake that lies behind it that brings you so close to nature. There are many "river beaches", simply stunning views and great walks to be had along the shores. And it's SO peaceful. You will need more information to find those special places - they are not so easy to locate. - but we can help :)
