Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

Our hotel’s place is near SENBON-MARUTAMACHI bus stop only 2 minutes walk from there. This is very useful bus stop, you can go directly to ARASHIYAMA , KINKAKUJI-TEMPLE,KIYOMIZU-TEMPLE, JR KYOTO STATION and so on. Our family founded Japanese rice shop in 1894 but I remodeled into hotel this spring. We are living long time here, and I want to keep my family’s business and hospitality mind for hotel work. Because the guest room is only 2, each room separate, so you can spend calmly and relax.

Higurashi-sou is a small guesthouse with 5 rooms only. This room is called 'Suisen' with unique Karakami paper doors with hand-drawn swirls and swimming frogs. (There are no bathrooms on the same floor. ) We can offer 'free bathhouse ticket', Enjoy our bathhouse culture with the locals! 10 minutes walk to Nijo castle. We have renovated the bathroom and kitchen areas to make your stay more comfortable while still retaining the charm of the townhouse, such as the low ceilings and narrow, steep stairs. Why not try experiencing a bit of Kyoto life? Please note that we will charge a local accommodation tax (200 yen per person per night) in addition to the accommodation fee.
