Visit the Green Market, an indoor/outdoor labrynth of stalls selling everything from food to hand-knit woolen mittens and even replicas of designer bags. Good place to buy Kazakh souvenirs!

This is a must visit place for Almaty and probably the only bazaar in the city center. Good for groceries, dry foods, fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy products, etc. Tourists go here for a vibe mainly. Remember though that this is not just an attraction, but rather a fully functioning bazaar. Beware of pickpockets.

This is the oldest bazar of the city that I would highly recommend you to visit if you wish to explore local specialties: season fruit and vegetables in the spring, summer and autumn; all types of meat products all year around - it's real delicacies, spices, nuts, fresh horse, camel, goat, cow milk from the farms. It's much more than that ... and don't be shy to bargain, it's a real oriental bazar.

The oldest market in Almaty, lots of vegetables, fruit, dried fruit, nuts, cheese, herbs, organic honey, freshly dried mountain herbal tea and all kind of meat. Also some clothing and souvenirs can be fund outside the food market.
