Meet the culture and traditions of old Thailand at Thai Thani Arts & Culture Village in Pattaya. Get to know Thai style activities, arts and crafts, traditional dance performances and festivals from all four regions of Thailand and watch the traditional way of life from bygone times. Four regions of Thai village At the four regions of Thai village you can get to know the architecture, arts and cuisine of each of Thailand’s four regions, being the North, Northeast, Central and South. Songkran area At the Songkran area you can play the water throwing festival, when people splash water on each other. Songkran is the festival to celebrate Thai new year in April. You can play Songkran at 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm and 4 pm. Playing Songkran festival Playing Songkran festival Loy Krathong area Another famous Thai festival is Loy Krathong, usually celebrated in November. At this area you can join in floating a krathong on the water. A krathong is a basket decorated with flowers and a candle. Join the Loy Krathong celebrations at 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm or 4 pm. Thai architecture Around Thai Thani Arts & Culture village are reproductions of traditional North and Northeast style houses, as well as the traditional houses of several of the hill tribes that live in the mountainous North. Lanna and Isan houses Take a look at several houses in the distinct architectural style of the North (Lanna) and the Northeast (Isan). Hill tribe houses You will also find several traditional houses of remote hill tribes of North Thailand, such as the Akha, Hmong and Karen. Reconstruction of a temple building in the Lanna style of North Thailand Lanna style temple Cruciform viharn A very beautiful structure is the viharn (assembly hall of a Buddhist temple) in a cruciform shape. The viharn that has a multi tiered roof is constructed in the ancient Lanna style of North Thailand. The structure has four porticoes each enshrining a golden Buddha image. Ornately decorated pillars support the building. Other structures Also take a look at the Northern style Khantoke restaurant and the alms bowl pavilion. Thai arts Around the cultural village there are paintings, sculptures, bas reliefs and ancient Buddha images from various era in Thai history. Among others you will see depictions of creatures from Thai mythology like the Kinnaree, that are half human and half bird. Making Thai foods & sweets Learn how well known Thai dishes as papaya salad (som tam) or delicious coconut cakes are prepared in the cooking classroom. Then try to make some coconut cakes yourself and taste what you have made. Decorative fruit carving Fruit and vegetable carving is a traditional art that goes back centuries. It is a skill that requires great precision. You can try it yourself if you like. Thai Thani silk Learn how famous Thai silk is made starting with the cocoons formed by worms, how long threads are extracted from them, how the threads are woven into textiles and finally the dyeing process to give it color. Umbrella painting Watch how traditional paper parasols are made in the umbrella painting pavilion. You can paint and decorate an umbrella in your own design using vibrant colors. There is a 100 Baht charge for this activity. Khum Khantoke dinner and dance starts at 5:10 pm and 6:10 pm. Performances Watch several shows, music and dance performances from all four regions of Thailand. Among them are: Four regions cultural show Thai daily life Classical Thai puppet show Getting around the village To get around Thai Thani arts & culture village you have a choice of walking, by bicycle or by horse drawn carriage. Horse carriage ride A fun experience is to take a relaxed ride in an old style horse drawn carriage. Bicycle Another fun way to get around the village is to ride an old style, three seater bicycle. Location Thai Thani arts & culture village is located at 88 Bang Sare in Sattahip district, just South of Pattaya. A visit to Thai Thani can easily be combined with Legend Siam cultural theme park and Nong Nooch tropical garden, both in the same area. How to get there To get there, hire a songthaew, a converted pick up truck with benches in the back. The songthaew is open and does not have air conditioning. Negotiate with the driver about the price and duration before starting the trip. If you prefer a more comfortable transfer, hire a taxi. Agree on price and duration of the trip before getting in.
