Saint savior in Chora / Kariye Musesi This church from the Byzantine era is small in size but impressive because of the richness of its interior and particularly for its mosaics . It was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans in 1511 and is now a museum. We absolutely recommend you visiting this museum as each tile has its own little story. Open every day except Wednesday from 9am to 16.30pm. Address: Kariye Müzesi, Eyüp, Kariye Cami Sokak No:26, İstanbul – Avrupa, Türkiye

Kariye museum is a 1482 years old monastery of Istanbul. With its fascinating architecture and frescos it is a must see museum. It takes 10 minutes on foot from flat to Kariye museum.

Chora means "country" in Greek and this beautiful Church (originally called the Church of St Saviour of Chora) lies just outside old Constantinople's city walls.

Chora church was built between 527 and 575 on the top of the sixth hill in today’s Edirnekapi district. It is a former Byzantine church, whose mosaics and frescoes are among the most important and lavish sacral cycles in the world. “Chora Museum” (Kariye Müzesi) is a church building that constitutes the center of the Chora Monastery, which was a great building complex in the Eastern Roman Empire period. Since it stood outside of the city walls built by Constantine, the building was called “Chora”, which means “in the country” or “outside of the city” in Greek.

This church built in the 6th century, houses some of the worlds best kept mosaics and frescos. The section with the frescos is under restoration, but the rest is still totally worth a visit.
