Sunnylands Center & Gardens – open to the public free from 8:30 am to 4 pm, Wednesday through Sunday (closed in summer) – offers visitors information about the history and cultural significance of the historic midcentury modern estate that was the winter residence of Walter and Leonore Annenberg. Designed by Frederick Fisher and Partners in the late 2000s, the Center is surrounded by a nine-acre art garden planted with more than 70,000 arid-climate plants and trees. Landscape architect James Burnett said that the design was inspired by the Annenbergs’ collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings.

Historic home of the Annenberg's, now a cultural destination. The property has been the vacation site of numerous celebrities and public officials. Sunnylands is to some extent regarded as the "Camp David of the West. Beautiful gardens to stroll through. Yoga offered some mornings. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm with free admission and parking. Historic House tours and the Birding on the Estate tours require advance ticket purchases. Book these well in advance of your trip to the desert. Space is limited and they sell out quickly.

Historic House Tour Guides take visitors on an electric shuttle to the historic house. During the 90-minute tour, guides offer guests information about items from the Sunnylands Collection, the building's architecture and interior design, and the history of the estate as a private residence and a high-level retreat center. Many key figures of the 20th century enjoyed relaxing as guests at Sunnylands. The list includes seven U.S. presidents, the British royal family, and Hollywood icons like Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart, Ginger Rogers, and many others.
