Take a personal look into the lives of owners and slaves in Antebellum Louisiana. In 2014, Whitney Plantation opened its doors to the public for the first time in its 262-year history - the only plantation museum in Louisiana with a focus on slavery.

A bit out of New Orleans, but very worth the trip. A plantation devoted to telling the story through the viewpoint of slaves.

This is the only slavery museum in the United States and it's very well done. Check the hours before going since it's an hour out of the city.

I haven't been here yet but it's on my list for sure. I've heard lots of great things about it. It's unique in that it focuses on the lives of the those who were enslaved that lived and worked on the plantation.
