The Sunset is a small local restaurant with simple traditional dinner and sandwich choices. The restaurant is clean and friendly and the food is basic and simple. On the other extreme, its homemade pies are stellar. Save room for dessert.

I’ve gone there ever since I can remember. They specialize in homestyle cooking with family atmosphere. Dine in, curbside or carry out. My favorite is a BBQ sandwich with slaw and a little Texas Pete. Great homemade pies too. Open since 1945!

Great local restaurant with affordable prices, friendly service and homestyle cooking. While they offer breakfast lunch and dinner, we prefer breakfast. Heads up...they do not accept credit cards...cash or check only. When your egg, bacon, pancake breakfast is only $4.50, it's not that…

“Outdoor 76 is my first choice for hiking shoe fitting. They're real pros at putting you in the right footwear. They also have a wide range of outdoor clothing and equipment. It is a locally owned enterprise and well worth visiting if you need supplies for your adventure.”

“Excellent Italian. Go for the Wed/Thur night special. You get 2 entree's with unlimited garlic knots and salad for $23.50. The cheese ravioli with meat sauce is to die for.”

“Don’t let the location fool you! This gem is well known and worth the (occasional) wait. They do not take reservations or credit cards...but the food will be a memorable part of your stay. ”

Point of Interest
“The 24-mile reach of the Little Tennessee River between the town of Franklin and Fontana Reservoir is believed to contain all of the same aquatic wildlife that was present when British colonists arrived in North America. As a Native Fish Conservation Area, the Little Tennessee River is home to more than 100 species of native fish, 10 species of native mussels, and a dozen crayfish species, including 32 species considered rare at the state or federal level. Panthertown Valley, where the Tuckasegee River originates in North Carolina, is often referred to as the “Yosemite of the East” because of its granite rock formations. It’s home to dozens of waterfalls and miles of hiking and biking trails. The Nantahala River, another tributary of the Little Tennessee, is a very popular whitewater paddling destination, and was home to the IFC World Freestyle Kayaking Championships in 2013.”

“Cliffside Lake is a wonderful place for a picnic at the lake, or a starting point for a multitude of hiking trails. There is a bathhouse for summertime swimming. It is also an access point for the Ranger Falls trail.”
