With native hardwood forest, deep ravines and spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the trail winds its way toward Monticello and back in a very manageable four miles. A maximum grade of 5% keeps it completely accessible to walkers, cyclists and those in wheelchairs. The Saunders-Monticello Trail and park system are open to the public daily.

A wooden footpath that ascends from Kemper Park up to Monticello. While the climb is fairly steep the walk itself is not bad due to the wide and mostly wooden footpath. Plus, once you're at the top it's all downhill.

Closer than Sugar Hollow and more accessible for those who aren't up for rougher hiking, most of this trail near Monticello is on a boardwalk. There are side trails you can take up for a more athletic trip up the mountain.

Hike the whole trail or just part of it. Bring a picnic and sit out.
