Ajuy is a small fishing village on the west coast of Fuerteventura, popular with locals at weekends and during the summer holidays. Its caves, old lime kilns, black beach, seafood restaurants and interesting geology also make it a popular day-trip for tourists.

The caves of Ajuy are located in the small town of Ajuy with about 150 inhabitants, and located about 9.5 km from Pájara, which is accessed by the FV-621 road. The Ajuy Natural Monument, declared in 1987, covers an area of 31.8 hectares and is located on the west coast of Fuerteventura. It is included in the Rural Park of Betancuria, one of the Protected Natural Areas of Fuerteventura. These natural caves that lava flows have formed in the cliffs, some 40 meters high, are one of Ajuy's tourist attractions.

The beach and caves at Ajuy are a beautiful way to spend a day. The beach is lovely with a few great bars and restaurants to refuel at ... but the main prize is a short walk along the cliff-path at low tide (please be aware that as the tide rises the caves are cut off by the sea ... so time your visit carefully) to the ancient caves. You'll pass the old lime pits where rocks were once baked to extract the lime to make primitive cement and mortar, and onto the epic and photogenic caves where you can explore and paddle in the shade. A wonderful way to spend a day
