Fabulous book stores...old railway station...free coffee in front of a roaring fire or lunch in cafe . You will spend hours here just browsing.

One of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain and the home of the famous Keep Calm and Carry On poster. Barter Books has become one of the largest tourist attractions in the North East of England and housed in a Victorian railway station, with an excellent cafe ad ice cream parlour next door. But please don’t leave your visit for a rainy day as it is most likely to be extremely busy on those kind of days!
