Truly ancient and atmospheric. Combine with a walk in the forest, the visitor centre next door and coffee from Butlers Retreat.

A unique 500 year old timber-framed hunting lodge built on the orders of Henry VIII in 1543 at the edge of Chingford Plains, part of the medieval Epping Forest. Take the train from Walthamstow Central Station to Chingford (3 stops) and turn right out of the station and up the hill to find it. Find out more about Tudor food and fashion. Continuing up the hill you will come to the Butler’s Pantry pub which serves food.
