One of the finest stone circles in the north of England, Long Meg and Her Daughters stone circle has a diameter of about 350 feet, the second biggest in the country. Long Meg is the tallest of the 69 stones, about 12 feet high, with three mysterious symbols, its four corners facing the points of the compass and standing some 60 feet outside the circle. William Wordsworth wrote ‘Next to Stonehenge it is beyond dispute the most notable relic that this or probably any other country contains.’

This mysterious stone circle is just a mile and a half’s walk away , it’s one of the biggest stone circles in the country and over 3000 year old , but little known so you can often have it to yourself.

Second largest stone circle in England. Legend says it was a witch and her coven turned to stone by a wizard from neighbouring Scotland!

Join the public footpath, pass the pigs taking time out sit on the bench & just watch these magical creatures. Then continue along the footpath to Long Meg & her daughters, one of the largest stone circles in England. Count the number of stones, it changes every time?!!
