Caernarfon is home to Wales’ most famous castle and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mighty Caernarfon Castle commands the lion’s share of attention, but the town’s narrow streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront also merit a visit. The castle, built in the 13th century by Edward I as a royal palace and military fortress, was at the core of a medieval walled town. The Romans left their mark too – 1000 years earlier they constructed their fort of Segontium on the hill above (its foundations still exist). Other attractions include Welsh Highland Railway (which runs for 25 miles to Porthmadog), Hwylfan Fun Centre and the scenic Lôn Eifion recreational cycle route. Waterside Doc Fictoria is home to Galeri (contemporary arts complex with theatre and cinema). The Caernarfon Record Office has archives of Gwynedd (documents, images, maps and newspapers) stretching back 400 years. Cae’r Gors at nearby Rhosgadfan was home of Kate Roberts, one of Wales’s most celebrated writers.

Historic walled town. Lots of quirky shops cafes and bars. Also the home of "The Black Boy" pub which is one of the oldest purpose built pubs in the UK.

A world heritage site with one of the most impressive castles in Wales. Take a break from the history and enjoy lunch in one of the towns many independent cafes and restaurants or a pint in Wale's smallest bar.

Caernarfon is the nearest town and has a spectacular castle which is well worth a visit. Within the old castle walls are some lovely independent shops such as Siop Iard, Lotti and Wren, Siop Eifion and Mirsi. It also has some great cafes and restaurants. Ouzo and Olive is a nice Greek restaurant that serves lovely sharing platers at a good price. The Black Boy serves great pub food with large portions and is full of history as it’s an old medieval inn. Osteria is a cozy Tuscan restaurant with a good reputation and Stones bistro is also good. Bonta Deli is a lovely little Deli and takeaway and sells lots of tasty food and local wines and beers . Bwyd Blasus Yashka is also a very good takeaway full of healthy options. Ty Glyndwr is a great place for a nice drink or cocktail and has live music on a weekend. The Anglesey Arms is a lovely old pub and the best place to sit outside and watch the sun set over the Menai Straits, it also has live music. Caernarfon has everything you would expect in a small town. It has banks, Boots chemist, post office and a large Morrison’s supermarket on the outskirt. Galeri has a small arts theatre and cinema and is a nice place to go for an evening out.

Great town to potter around. The castle is surprising big inside with lots of historic bits to read. The scenic trains run from here- Ffestiniog and Welsh highland railway, a good day out.
