Watch the weather as this is a great surfing spot. Great for beachcombing too. Take care of the waves, they can be pretty wicked. This spot connects with the Juan de Fuca Trail.
The trailhead to Sombrio is about a 45 minute drive from the Cottage and a 15 minute walk down to the beach. This is a popular surf beach with several breaks and brings in big crowds of surfers. Many people will camp here and it gives the place a really fun vibe with so many people really taking the time to relax and enjoy this beautiful place. I recommend bringing some lunch and staying the day. It is a really beautiful coast and forest to explore.

A wonderful day trip to this stunning beach, a 1.5 hr drive. The turnoff is not well marked but someone has usually spray painted a barrier so keep an eye out on the left hand side of the road once you see the Sombrio sign ahead. Pack a lunch. Find the secret waterfall by walking up the stream at the end of the beach (facing the beach, go left) Well worth the day trip.
